Parliamentary secretary for tourism and law & justice Yitachu asserted that Tizu river valley under Phek district has potential for rubber plantation. He said that a vast area along Tizu river valley which are lying unused and incapable to go for the purpose of paddy cultivation or other crops, be converted into other alternative economic income activity, like rubber plantation.
He was addressing the public here Wednesday during the inauguration of eco & adventure tourism complex. Viewing that the valley posses suitable for rubber and favourable climate condition, he said the populace along the long stretch of Tizu river valley can take up rubber cultivation on large scale, which would in turn boost the economy. He was optimistic that the economy of the rural people will receive a major boost once the rubber plantation is taken up in the entire valley of Tizu river from Suthotsu to Avangkhu, covering more than 25 villages.
Yitachu said that he want to give priority on rubber plantation viewing its potentiality, adding that soil testing was in progress. Subscribing that rubber plantation fetches high yield, he said that it takes only 7 to 10 years for full maturity whereas under economic activity in tree plantation one has to wait for 30 to 40 years for maturity. He maintained that a worth calling industry in Dimapur is now a rubber plantation, adding that rubber plantation venture is doing quite well in some foothill areas of the state.
Many have already registered success story in rubber cultivation and other horticulture activities, for which some do not want to go for government job. Stating that economic activity is not solely lies on government job, he urged upon the people take advantage of the rich resources, fertile land and suitable climatic factor and focus towards the right crop for the right place.
