Ukhrul, December 18 (MExN): The Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an honourable and acceptable solution to the protracted Naga political issue, based on the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.
"We, the guardians of our land and people bear the burden and the moral responsibility to bring the concern of our land and people with regard to the future and the outcome of the ongoing political talk, under the chief negotiators Th Muivah and the collective leadership of NSCN," read the memorandum from the TNWL which comprises of headmen from a conglomeration of 250 Tangkhul Naga villages
Citing the ‘recurring discord’ over the Naga flag and constitution, the TNWL stated that the flag and constitution is of great importance and cannot be at the mercy of negotiations. “We are inseparable with our land, flag and constitution. These elements therefore must form the core of the final outcome of the political negotiation," it asserted.
Further stating that the 23 years of political dialogue has built a better relationship and understanding between the Naga people and the Government of India, and an appreciation for what the Naga people have endured for nearly eighty years because of unresolved political issue, the TWNL stated that the “peace agreement cannot be shelved in phases but must be inclusive."
It reminded the Prime Minister of his message after signing of the Framework Agreement in 2015 and said that it would continue to hope in the same leadership. We trust that a peaceful solution will come in your time, it added.
"We wish you good health, determination and clarity of direction to put an end to a conflict that has caused great suffering to both India and the Nagas," read the memorandum which was appended by President TNWL, SA Ramnganing and Secretary TNWL Kaphaoleng Angakang. The memorandum was submitted through Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul District.
