LONGLENG, JUNE 8 (MExN): In what can be termed as a novel initiative, the Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) has resolved that every government department under Longleng district would adopt a government school with the objective of promoting quality education.
The DPDB meeting where the inventive decision was taken was held on June 7 under the chairmanship of DC Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam at DC’s conference hall, Longleng.
The house had a lengthy discussion on the agenda submitted by ADC, Longleng Temsu Wathi and supplemented by DC and SDO (Civil) for adoption of GPS and GMS by every department under Longleng district to supervise and monitor the teachers and VECs to promote quality education at the primary level, stated a DIPR report.
The DC informed the members that poor performance of the students in HSLC & HSSLC was due to lack of quality education at the primary level. He pointed out that the policy of Communitization had negative impact on the performance of the schools. He lamented that qualified and trained teachers appointed to impart the students are not performing their duties and keeping proxy teachers with the understanding of the VECs in maximum schools in the primary sectors.
The DC also spoke on the misuse of Midday Meal Scheme and other schemes meant for development of the schools by the VECs. He also urged the officers to visit schools whenever they visit any village for official duty. The members while supporting the agenda as a noble gesture to assist the schools in their own capacity and give feedbacks to the authority for improvement of the schools decided to approve the agenda to adopting GPS & GMS by the respective members of the DPDB.
After a lengthy deliberation, a six-member sub-committee headed by ADC Longleng as Chairman was constituted to prepare guidelines for school adoption by the officers and will submit the detail report in the next meeting. The other members of the committee include SDO (Civil), DEO, SDEO, BDO Sakshi and CDPO Longleng. The adoption of schools will start after the summer break.
