Tobu Area Students Union sports meets

Mon, January 20 (DIPR): The 27th General Session of Tobu Area Students Union cum sports meet was held at Tobu headquarter from January 5 to 15 with MLA and Advisor Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, Temjen Jamir and Nyamnyai Konyak Vice Chairman, Adhoc Town Committee, Tobu as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Addressing the meet as the chief guest, Temjen Jamir said that sports and physical activities have some rules and regulations, which needs to be followed where discipline and fair playing is necessary. These rules bind a player and the player needs to maintain their health to be fit to play, he maintained. The chief guest called upon the sportspersons to be disciplined and stay away from doing evil things such as use of drugs and alcohol, which is a major social menace in the society. He also added that sports’ is an important avenue especially for the youth and not only as a recreational time management but also as a mean to stay away from social evils. Those persons who are talented in sports have great scope to succeed in life he asserted and further added that youth of today are the future hope of tomorrow. Jamir also said that with this aim in mind, the Nagaland government under the able leadership of the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has introduced lots of programme, which are being implemented specially for the upliftment of the youth resources in Nagaland. Persons who excel in sports and other physical activities and bring laurels to the state or inter state as well as in national competition are awarded with a cash incentives and financial assistance, even job opportunities by the government. He therefore urged the youth to set a goal to become a person of substance and also encouraged the youth to put more efforts to reach the goal of excellent academically in all types of social and physical activities. Be an asset to the Nagas in general and to our area in particular, which is the need of the honour today, said Jamir. The chief He donated rupees 50,000/- towards the welfare of the students.
