Tohanba calls for spirit of ‘forgive and forget’

Tuensang, August 8 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary for IPR and Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba graced the Medumnio festival as chief guest at Shamator on August 8.
Addressing a huge gathering at the Medumnio festival celebration, R. Tohanba called upon the people to maintain peace and harmony among them and said that festival help us to bring each other together by exchanging new ideas, thoughts etc. and in the process bring peace and harmony among brotherhood, friends, clans, tribe and villages etc. ‘Let us have the spirit of harmony and also let us maintain the spirit of forgive and forget in order to ensure unity among our community’ he appealed to the people, and added that peace is the need of hour and without peace all development activities is disturbed. He said, people talk about peace or to forge better relation among brothers, union, Hohos, tribes and community etc but, unless and until the spirit of forgiveness prevails, Peace and Unity cannot be achieved.
The DAN Government with the slogan ‘Peace for Development and Development for Peace’ under the able leadership of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio had brought development to the people and people are starting to enjoy the real benefit and facility provided by the government in all sectors. He stressed on the need to preserve our culture and traditions and added that without our culture and tradition one’s identity would vanish.
The chief guest thanked all the cultural troupes from Shamator village men’s group, Waphur village Women group, Lunso Beru Culture Club, Lunkhe Culture Club, St. Xavier School Culture Club and Thopun Culture Club. The chief guest was accompanied by Deputy Director IPR Chubalepzuk, EAC Shamator, DPRO Tuesnang and DIS Shamator.  Public leaders, people both young and old from neighbouring villages including Shamator, Wapher, Lasokiur, Langkonger, Müleangkiur, Tsasher, Sangphur and Yakor participated in the festival, which was followed by Medumnio feast.
Festivals are distinct cultures of every Naga who loves to celebrate in their own way. It is observed with great devotion, reason and significance, which have been passed from one generation to another. The Yimchungers celebrate Medumnio festival during the 1st week of August every year. The festival has many different valuable meanings like Me – means soul, Dem – wrapped, Neo – means feast. This festival is celebrated right after the harvest of millet. It signifies seeking God’s blessing for new born babies and also seeking blessings from God for the young boys and girls who are engaged.
 
Public told not to misuse cultural value

Tuensang, August 8 (DIPR):
Along with the rest of the Yimchunger people, Sotokur EAC Hq. also celebrated Medumnio festival on August 8 at public ground, Sotokur village with Yankiuba Head GB Sotokur village as the chief guest. The chief guest in his address highlighted the significance of Medumnio festival and called upon the public not to misuse the cultural value of our forefathers. In the programme, competition on cultural and sports items were also held where the following persons were adjudged first place in the competition: R. Shokum in fire making; L. Doki and M. Sunso group in Khümdong (cultural song); Y. Aunru village in top spinning; Targon club in volley ball (boys) and Christian Youth Endeavour (CYE) Sotokur won in volley ball (girls).
The function was chaired by S. Kumcho while invocation prayer was pronounced by H.Tsurito Pastor Sotokur village and welcome address was delivered by H. Müzih GB Sotokur village. Short speeches were also delivered by the following Head GBs of Longtuker village, Y. Auunru village, Kelongru village and Kuthur village.
