Kohima, April 16 (MExN): Following the detection of COVID-19 positive cases among participants of the Dr T Ao Trophy 2021, bringing the tournament to a halt, the Naga People's Front (NPF) on Friday said that it is now “too late” and the incident has exposed the ill-preparedness and easy-going nature of the government.
Holding the State government accountable for placing the lives of participants and spectators under ‘big threat’, the NPF through its Press Bureau questioned what prompted the government to hold such a tournament “when people are reeling under the fear of pandemic.”
It criticized the ‘callous attitude’ of the government and stated that those in power are not paying enough attention to the danger of pandemic. “The Government should have done proper screening and mandatory testing of all the players before the tournament commence. The organiser should have also followed proper SOP. It is believed that some districts played without even testing,” it alleged.
Such tournaments should not have been hosted in such perilous situation for which the government is paying the price now, it added.
