Tuensang, August 30 (MExN): The recent torrential rains in the state and the subsequent landslides have not spared Peshu Range under Tuensang district.
Peshu Range Students’ Union (PRSU) in a press release has reported that the 60 feet long bridge connecting Chiphur and Kingjung villages to Thonoknyu SDO(C) Hq have been washed away on July 29, 2018.
PRSU, President, M. Khaikho and General Secretary, L. Pukho stated in the press release that the major landslides which occurred at various places have totally cut off the lifeline of several villages under Peshu Range depriving the villages from receiving the essential commodities and medical aid.
The Union stated that “some lives have already lost owing to this situation because patients were unable to reach the hospitals to avail medical facilities.” It also added that students and teachers are also being affected as the teachers are unable to reach their posting places in these villages aftermath these landslides and the damaged bridge. “The living conditions in these villages are becoming harder as they are unable to receive even a packet of salt,” it further reported.
Therefore, in the light of the grievances and untold hardship faced by these villages, the Peshu Range Students’ Union (PRSU) has earnestly urged the state government and the department concerned to immediately intervene in this grim situation and to save its people from further misery. Meanwhile, the PRSU has acknowledged the selfless and tireless services of Advisor L. Khumo fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics for his effort in restoring the seasonal road from Waphur to Thonoknyu SDO (C) Hq “despite the lack of provision of fund from the State Government.”
