DIMAPUR, APRIL 28 (MExN): The Department of Land Resources, Nagaland in collaboration with the Rubber Board of India Regional office, Dimapur conducted training on Scientific Method of Rubber Tapping & Processing under Tappers' Intensive Skill Improvement.
The department, knowing the fact that the rubber farmers must have scientific and technical knowledge of rubber tapping and processing in order to ensure long lifespan of the trees and also to ensure quality processing and production of latex, felt the need to train rubber farmers, a press release informed.
It stated that the total area under rubber plantation in Nagaland stands at 19132.5 Hectares with 14100 Hectares already under tapping stage.
The training was conducted in three phases with the first phase commencing from March 18 and the third phase concluding on April 27. All together, 45 rubber farmers from all rubber growing districts of the state were trained at the department's Resource Centre in Ruzaphema under Chümoukedima district.
It may be mentioned that in the first two batches, RBI supported with their technical expertise. However, in the third batch, the department conducted the training through its own in-house trainers.
Additional Director, Land Resources and Assistant Development Officer, RBI Dimapur addressed the trainees in the culmination programme of the third phase training.
Additional Director, on behalf of the department, acknowledged the support of the Rubber Board.
Encouraging the trainees to become trainers in the respective regions or areas, he also mentioned that the department would also be ensuring hands on support in the field through the already trained farmers who will be master trainers in their respective clusters/districts.
The Assistant Development Officer urged rubber farmers and tappers to stop daily tapping of the trees to ensure longevity of the trees. He said that the RBI would continue to extend all possible assistance through the department.
Sharing their experience, the trainees said the training was extremely beneficial for the farmers and tappers and they are happy to have gained much knowledge on scientific method of tapping and processing.
District Project Officer, Land Resources, Chümoukedima chaired the programme and Project Officer Directorate delivered the vote of thanks.
