Total pig ban in Tuli after swine fever scare

Mokokchung, November 25 (MExN): The administration in Tuli Sub-Division under Mokokchung district has imposed an immediate and “total ban on the slaughter, import, export and transportation of pigs and pork products,” following reports of several pig deaths with suspected symptoms of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The order was issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Imsenperong Wati, Tuli Sub-division, Mokokchung. 

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, rapid test kits have indicated results resembling ASF. Serum samples from the deceased animals have been sent for laboratory confirmation.

The district administration has directed the public to report any pig deaths immediately to the District Administration and the Veterinary Department. The ban will remain in force until further notice.

Any violation of the order will be punishable under relevant laws, the administration stated, citing the urgency of the situation.
