Towards Harmony: NSF general conference on April 30

A one-day general conference of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) is slated to be held in Kohima with limited attendance and strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs. The conference will be held at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima on April 30. 

The event which was initially proposed as 3-day conference that would be held in Ukhrul, Manipur organised by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, was cancelled after a surge in COVID-19 cases in Manipur. 

The 29th session will be commemorated with less crowd in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, NSF President Ninoto Awomi informed during a press briefing at NSF office Kohima. As such, five delegates from the 17 federating units, two from subordinate bodies and two each from special invitees have been invited to attend the programme which will not exceed 200 people, Awomi added. 

Towards Harmony 
Central Organizing Committee, Convenor, Subenthung Kithan said that this year's theme “Towards Harmony,” has been conceptualized with the idea of harmonious peaceful co-existence both within the Naga society and with its neighbours. The theme seeks to understand each other’s hopes, fears, interests and needs and that recognizing and respecting each other’s basic human rights are crucial for peace and harmony in the region, he added.

With this, the NSF called on the people to help create a harmonious environment where respect, democracy, justice and peace as the founding stones of our interdependent relationships. 

During the morning theme session, former NSF president and Nagaland Minister for Housing and Mechanical Tongpang Ozukum will be the special guest and Dr Aküm Longchari, Publisher, The Morung Express will be the theme speaker. 

The valedictory session will be graced by former NSF president and MLA Y Vikheho Swu while Nepuni Piku, Member, Forum for Naga Reconciliation will moderate the session. Elections will be conducted in the afternoon. 

7 officials vying for NSF office 
For the upcoming elections to the office of the NSF, so far, five candidates are contesting for the post of President and two for the post of General Secretary. Informing this during the briefing, Election Chief Commissioner K Elu Ndang also informed that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been put in place. Nomination forms will be issued on April 29 from 12:00 noon and close on April 30 at 10:00 pm. It will be followed by submission of Electoral College and nomination papers, withdrawal of candidates and scrutiny and announcements of candidates. The results will be declared at 5:00 pm.
