TR Zeliang meets Sarma to discuss Naga issue

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, TR Zeliang, who is also Convenor of the NPF Political Affairs Mission (PAM), called on the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convener, Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 28 and discussed the Naga political issue.

A press release from the NPF press bureau informed that Zeliang appreciated the idea of the Government of India for “roping him in to take active participation to resolve the Naga Issue and bring peace in the region.”

“Sarma’s involvement in the peace process is a big boon to the Naga people and the Northeast region in general as he is someone who understands and knows the sentiments of the people in the region,” the NPF stated.

Zeliang appraised Sarma on the activities undertaken by the NPF under the banner of the newly constituted Political Affairs Mission (PAM), like, the meetings held with the two Naga negotiating groups and also the various apex civil organisations of Nagaland. He also pointed out the desire of the Naga people for an early solution at the earliest.

He expressed hope that the solution would be acceptable, honourable and inclusive so that Nagas along with the entire North East region contribute to progress and development with peace in the region.

It was further informed that the PAM members will be proceeding to Delhi to meet the Collective Leadership of the NSCN (IM) to discuss the competency clauses of the agreement so that a clearer picture can be drawn.

The NPF expressed hope that the Government of India should come out with a single draft accord so that “all the stakeholders may take a call on such draft agreement and support the early solution in clear terms.”

Both Zeliang and Sarma agreed that a common draft for one solution and one accord is necessary to be formulated and discussed amongst the stakeholders, according to the press release.
