Trade body reaffirms big no to ‘commission’

Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): In response to the clarification made by Naga Council Dimapur against Dimapur Chamber of Commerce (DCC) on opposing of tax collection, the DCC has stated that it will firmly stand by its earlier statement and at any cost would not tolerate tax collection by any NGOs. “Any NGO may make thousands of excuses but it does not mean that the business community has to pay taxation to NGOs which collects tax on pretext of some lame excuses”, stated a press note issued by Kasheto Yeptho President, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce.

Stating that if at all the Naga Council required funds to manage its office or whatsoever, the DCC pointed out that the council could ask for its own budgetary provision from the government instead of levying taxation from the business community. The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce reiterated its stand to oppose on giving “unjustified taxation to any NGOs” and appealed to the administration concerned to cancel the order given to Naga Council.

Otherwise, the DCC would have no option left but to resort to indefinite business shut down by hardware dealers and perishable goods dealers as first phase of agitation. In the second phase, the entire business community of Dimapur would go for indefinite closure of business.

The DCC also stated that it would not entertain any rejoinders further on this issue and that this would be the last and final statement on its stand. “The concerned district administration shall be held sole responsible for any unwanted situation arising out of the deadlock”, the DCC stated.
