The resource person training participants on the inoculation of Shitake dowels

Kohima, April 20 (MExN): Training on cultivation of Shitake mushrooms organised by Noklak police in collaboration with KVK Tuensang was held at Nokhu village, Noklak on April 18.

The training was attended by women SHGs and farmers from Nokhu, Nokhu Nokin and Nokhu EAC circle with KVK Tuensang Farm Manager Yanger I Kichu as the resource person. While training the attendees on the inoculation of Shitake dowels, Kichu also updated on the booming agriculture industry of Shitake mushrooms which is gaining demand in the State of Nagaland as well as other states. The resource person also reminded on the convenient cultivation of the mushrooms in the interior areas with the easy availability of raw materials and required climate. "It gives the produce for 5 to 6 years if inoculated for once, hence, it can help farmers to enhance their income resource and diversity of the food production," informed Kichu. During the training the participants were also provided with dowels for inoculation of mushrooms.

Speaking during the training, SP Noklak Dr Pritpal Kaur IPS emphasized on uplifting rural economy with the pursuance of scientific agriculture and new technologies for farm production. While new technologies must be adapted, Dr Kaur also asserted the importance of balancing on the preservation of one's own biodiversity and organic farming to enhance farmers livelihood and income at the same time. The various schemes for farmers provided by the Government and the importance of agro business were also discussed.

The training was followed by discussions and enquiries raised on agriculture by the participants.
