Transport officers notified on issuance of licenses for LMVs

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): The Nagaland State Transport Commissioner has issued a notice to the district transport officers with regard to issuance of driving license for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs). 

The notice informed that as per a ruling of the Supreme Court, “to obtain the transport license in case of any medium/heavy goods and passenger vehicles, the gross vehicle weight of which exceeds 7500 kilograms only. No other vehicle will require any separate endorsement even if it is used for commercial purpose.” 

The exemption from the requirement to obtain the endorsement for commercial vehicles would apply to motorcycles without gear; motorcycles with gear; Light Motor Vehicle (Goods/Passengers); and e-rickshaw/e-cart. 

“In compliance to the directive of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways vis-à-vis the Judgement of the Supreme Court, all licencing authorities and enforcement authorities in the state are hereby informed to take cognizance of the same and act accordingly in discharge of duties on such matters,” the notice added. 

A letter to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways directing all states to comply with the directive of the Supreme Court.
