Transporter seeks clarification from NSCN (IM)

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): A transporter in Dimapur has sought clarification from the NSCN (IM) with regard to “extortion” allegedly done by a cadre of the NSCN (IM).

The transporter, who is the proprietor of M/S Zhimomi Transport and also Vice President of the Dimapur Goods Transport Association, through a press statement, narrated what he termed as “threat, intimidation, extortion and gross injustice being meted out to me” by  a person (name withheld) claiming to be an “official of NSCN (IM).”

The transporter alleged that the person has been “demanding exorbitant amount of money” disproportionate to the income of his transport agency. He added that he was also intimidated to shut down his business even after “meeting his monetary demands without citing any reason.”

According to him, the alleged cadre, in collaboration with two others (names withheld) are imposing monetary penalty on his transport trucks at “various gates.” He added that the two, who he said operates from Guwahati and Karbi-Anglong, deploy their “workers” at Dillai Sunday Bazaar and Lahorijan/Khatkhati area, while the cadre deploys “his workers” at Mao Gate, Manipur.

As a result, he said that he was “compelled to seek clarification from the NSCN (IM) authorities if it is the official directive of the NSCN (IM) or the self styled functioning” of an individual cadre.

He expressed hope that the NSCN (IM) would defend and protect local entrepreneurs “and therefore would expect justice to be delivered at the earliest.”
