‘Try to be leaders and not followers’

28th parting social held at SASRD

Medziphema, June 17 (MExN): The Nagaland University: School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Medziphema on Friday held its 28th Parting Social with Nagaland DGP T John Longkumer as the special guest.

According to a press release from the Information & Publicity Secretary, Students’ Union: SASRD, the DGP congratulated the outgoing students saying it was a special day for them. 

Stressing on the importance of clarity of mind, purpose and ambition, he said that one should try to be a leader and not a follower, giving examples from his own past to illustrate his point. He also urged the students to have their priorities straightened out because only then will they succeed in their chosen field, the release stated. 

Longkumer said that agriculture is the cornerstone of all civilisations and that as professionals in the field of agriculture, the students have many opportunities and should find their path and true calling by being open minded and ready to face any challenges instead of looking out for white collar jobs only, the release stated.

In his concluding note, the DGP is said to have urged the students to be themselves, to step out of the shadow of being a follower and become leaders in their chosen profession, as per the release. 

The programme was also attended by Imsongmeren, ADC Medziphema; Hayithung Patton, 2nd OC, Police Medziphema; and Lieutenant Colonel C H Jacob, 2nd Officer Commanding of the 7th Assam Rifles, Medziphema.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Prof Pauline Alila, In-charge, Students’ Welfare and invocation was offered by Vezolo-ü, President, EU: SASRD. Prof Akali Sema, Dean, SASRD gave the welcome address and speeches on behalf of the outgoing students were given by Bansang (BSc 4th Year) and Rongsentula (MSc 2nd Year) while Adulu Kapu gave a speech on behalf of the remaining students.

Further, Prof M Aleminla Ao, PVC, NU: SASRD exhorted the gathering while the vote of thanks was proposed by Wenlang M (General Secy, SU: SASRD).Other highlights of the programme included special number by the EU Choir and Avikürhe Ngouri, according to the release.
