Tsumang FC emerged champions of the Open Penalty Shootout Tournament Season 3 organised by the Wokha Town Ao Baptist Church (WTABC) Youth Ministry at the Wokha Town Public Ground on July 21.
Avengers finished as runners-up, while K Meribemo Kikon was adjudged Best Goalkeeper. A total of 22 teams participated in the tournament.
Delivering the keynote address, Lotha Youth Hoho President and match patron Mharhomo V Murry lauded the WTABC Youth Ministry for organising the third edition of the tournament and highlighted the role of sports, particularly football, in shaping character and instilling discipline among young people.
Referring to the legacy of Dr T Ao, Murry said football was not merely about winning matches but also about perseverance, teamwork, discipline and respect. He encouraged the players to give their best while maintaining sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Murry also urged the youth to contribute towards building a healthier society and stay away from substance abuse. Stressing collective responsibility, he called for concerted efforts towards making Wokha a drug-free district.
Moajungba, Youth Pastor, WTABC, said the tournament was organised to bring together youngsters and members of different churches in Wokha Town and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents. He informed that 22 teams participated in the Season 3 tournament.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Sungjemrenla, while Pastor Tayongtemjen pronounced the invocation. Youth Secretary Imlibenla delivered the welcome address, followed by a special number presented by Merenkumzuk.
The tournament was formally declared open with a ceremonial kick-off by the match patron.
