Tuensang students encouraged to nurture talents

Tuensang, April 28 (MExN): Sao Chang College, Tuensang hosted an international webinar on ‘My Journey as a Naga Artist | Temsüyanger Longkumer’ on April 27 with participants from various parts of the world.

The online seminar was organized by the Department of History and the Department of English with London-based Naga artist Temsuyanger Longkümer as the resource person. Longkumer is a contemporary Naga artist who has received multiple international awards, scholarships, and residencies.

According to a press release from the college on Wednesday, Temsüyanger Longkumer took the participants along his journey as a Naga artist through a display of his works from the earliest to the latest. In-depth discussions about his inspiration, the various mediums and techniques he uses and messages behind his works were also conducted.

The release stated that the nature of the talk was conceived with a vision to encourage students especially in Nagaland to nurture their talents and to dream big. The discussion session was particularly fruitful with aspiring artists, art enthusiasts and scholars expressing their concerns and questions. While responding to an apprehension expressed by a budding artist, Temsuyanger is said to have encouraged the artist and was quoted as saying, “Everybody lets you down but not art.” He ended the discussion with a hopeful note about his future project which is aimed towards the benefit of artists in Nagaland, the release stated.

The welcome note was presented by Dr Iris Odyuo, Associate Professor, Department of History while the online seminar was moderated by Limayangla Pongener, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
