Tuensang, June 8 (MExN): One day awareness campaign on Fall Armyworm (FAW) was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra and District Agriculture Office, Tuensang in collaboration with ATMA on June 7 at Noksen Town Community Hall, Tuensang.
During the programme, discussion was held following which it was resolved to observe June 10 to 14 as mandatory period for mass scouting, collection through hand picking and destruction of the pest by every farmers in their respective village fields; Village councils to spear head the intervention and report the outcome to KVK office and District Agriculture Office by June 14 for future course of action; Awareness information on FAW to be conveyed by participating members to their adjacent villages along with awareness poster (in Nagamese) on FAW; FAW awareness poster to be explained to farmers of the villages by the participating VCCs and farmers for identification through church and village council and to be displayed in village council hall or church premises.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Tangekeiba Ongh ATM, while keynote address of the campaign was delivered by Eliseni Tsopoe, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant protection), KVK Tuensang.
As part of the campaign, poster in Nagamese on FAW was unveiled by the Head GB Noksen Town during the programme to be displayed in villages for easy identification of the pest in taking future course of action.
In technical session, thematic presentation on Fall Army Worm (FAW): An invasive pest and threat to the food security, was given by Eliseni Tsopoe, SMS (Plant Protection) where, she elaborated on the history of occurrence, Pest identification, lifecycle, scouting and management strategies for Fall Army worm. During the discussion session, Eliseni Tsopoe also stated that at this juncture pest surveillance and scouting should be given utmost importance to tackle the pest in case of its outbreak.
All together 18 farmers and VCCs from Longra, Kumpung, Yangpi, Noksen village and Noksen town participated in the campaign. The District Agriculture Office, Tuensang also distributed Pheromone traps, Neem oil, Metarhizium anisopliae and Ememectin benzoate to the participants. The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the organisers for conducting such programs for their benefit.
