
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): Two persons were killed and one seriously injured in a tragic road mishap on Sunday afternoon, September 4 at Chumukedima. The vehicle they were travelling in hit a tree by the roadside, a little away from the State bank of India, Chumukedima branch. The deceased were identified by the traffic police as Rofikul Ali (18 years) and Niranjan Shankar (32 years), who were said to be labourers employed at a timber mill at 7th Mile. The injured, identified as Biju Pawri was admitted to CIHSR.
According to the traffic police there were four occupants in the vehicle, a pick up truck (NL 07 A 3691), at the time of the accident. They were said to have been headed towards 7th Mile after washing the vehicle by the Chathe riverside. The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, veered to the right and rammed straight onto a tree. Miraculously for the driver, he survived the impact but absconded from the scene and is yet to be traced. He was identified only as one Santosh. The ill-fated vehicle belonged to ‘Green Timber’ – a timber mill located at 7th Mile.
