UGC prohibits e-cigarettes in higher edu institutes

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 10 (MExN): The University Grants Commission has prohibited electronic-cigarette and parts thereof through promulgation of The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Ordinance, 2019.

Informing this, a notice issued through the DIPR stated that regular e-cigarette use is not only associated with adverse effects on cardiovascular and respiratory system but, also negatively affects the part of the brain of an average adolescent. “In fact, the other harmful and addictive effects arising out of used chemicals/ solvents in e-cigarettes are covered by blending it with attractiveness through sleek design and promotional advertisements,” it added.

The notice further stated that these advertisements create a false notion of safety which makes the children and adolescents most vulnerable to those offensive products. “Hence, they need to be made aware of harmful effects of such products.” The detailed information on the matter can be accessed at https:// ntcp.nhp.nhp.gov.in.

All higher education institutes have been directed to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes in their campus and make the student aware of the bad effects of e-cigarettes and the harm the nicotine in any form can do to their growing brain.

Prof Rajnish Jain, Secretary of University Grants Commission issued this notification on January 7 directed to all colleges affiliated to their university.

The commission further informed the schedule for admissions  in ODL programmes  henceforth. It saud that academic session beginning January would have February end as the last date for admission, and academic session beginning July would have September end as the last date for admission.

The commission directed the higher education institute to upload the admission details within fifteen days from the last date of the admissions in the respective academic session i.e. October 15 for July academic session and March 15 for January academic session.
