In a step towards improving mental health awareness among adolescents, the Young Minds NE held a workshop at Fernwood School, Kohima for students in classes 8 to 12 on August 1.

Based on the theme ‘Understanding Mental Health among Adolescents’, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues affecting adolescents, educate students on the impact of mental health on their lives and provide guidance on recognizing mental health challenges and responding appropriately.

The facilitators at the workshop were Daewon Nongrem, Counseling Psychologist and Founder of Young Minds NE, Vivoto Koso, Psychologist and Co-Founder of Young Minds NE.

Key topics covered included an introduction to mental health, the impact of mental health on adolescents' lives, and the six major functional areas affected by poor mental health.

Understanding mental health, impact on adolescents, functional areas affected by poor mental health, identifying mental health challenges, Do’s and Don’ts of approaching someone with challenges, importance of seeking help and promoting a positive mental health environment were discussed at length at the workshop.

The workshop included activities designed to deepen students' understanding of mental health issues. The workshop concluded with the identification of several students who may require immediate professional attention from the school counselor.

Young Minds NE expressed their gratitude to the school authority for their support and collaboration in facilitating the programme. “The organization looks forward to continuing its efforts in promoting mental health awareness and providing support to the youth in the community,” Daewon Nongrem stated.
