‘Be torch bearers of peace, prosperity & development:’ Vevoyi

The golden jubilee celebration of Upper Khomi Youth Organization (UKYO) got underway today under the theme ‘Re-orienting the values of Youth-hood’ at Upper Khomi village in Phek district.

Gracing the opening ceremony as the special guest, Vevoyi WD Vadeo, President, Chakhesang Youth Organization Kohima (CYOK) called upon the people of Upper Khomi village and UKYO to carry forward the ideals of the pioneers to defend, protect and promote the community and be torch bearers of peace, prosperity and development with its motto ‘Küve-o Huto.’

He also inaugurated the new newly constructed playground of Upper Khomi village.

“This landmark 50 years jubilee under the theme ‘Re-orienting the values of Youth-hood’ is a time to celebrate the many milestones, achievements and success of the youth of this village,” he said. He called upon the youth to re-orient/re-educate themselves into many facets/virtues of the pioneers and elders who have tirelessly worked for the welfare and progress of the community.

Vadeo also acknowledged the pioneers and senior leaders who sowed the seed of unity, oneness and togetherness. He said that Upper Khomi has been the centre of excellence in many spheres of life be it education, economy and social progress, adding that the village is not lacking behind in terms of sustainable livelihood, employment and standard of living.

Asking the people to think deeper to become wiser, he said “Thinking leads to action. Knowledge without action is useless and irrelevant. Knowledge with action brings prosperity.” Unity is our weapon and our strength, he said adding that when people are united, they can overcome any obstacle and accomplish any goal.

People’s progress and development largely depends on magnitude of our unity, he said. Challenging the youth to work hard to excel, he said “Let’s not settle for second best.” Vadeo said that progressive society will remain a distant dream “unless we act and work smart.”
 
Join the race of global sports industry

Complimenting UKYO for attaining 50 glorious years, Shepo Dzudo, President, Centre Chakhesang Public Origination (CCPO) challenged the youth to join the race of the global sports industry. He said time has come to take up sports with seriousness and professional attitude.

Referring to the good road condition between Pfutsero and Phek that passes through Centre Chakhesang villages, he called upon the concerned villages to plant ornamental and fruit trees and flowers along the road side to attract tourists.
Any anti-social activities along this route will be dealt with seriousness by CCPO, Dzudo cautioned. Further, he called upon the people to have better understanding and strengthen peace and unity for all round development.

Change is inevitable

UKYO President, Külüpoyi V Vadeo maintained that change is inevitable and necessary, and asked the youth to renew their minds to cope with the fast changing world. “Without change, humanity would decay and die,” he said adding that the winds of change that have been blowing for thousands of years, have transformed humanity in unbelievable ways.

“Every day brings new discoveries, new breakthroughs and new knowledge,” he said adding that the capacity of human minds to innovate and evolve appears to have no limit. We too are entering into a new era of these changes that affects all of us and we are also part of the global community, he added.

Further, he said that the quality of life can improve only when certain basic requirements like peace and harmony in the society, security of life and property, reasonable income generation, food, shelter and clothing, education, healthcare and opportunities for employment and growth are provided.

Vekhoto Resu also shared greetings on behalf of Centre Chakhesang Sports Association.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by UKYO ex-President Khüthayi Dzudo while act of blessings was pronounced by Rev Dr Nüvocho Dzudo, Pastor, CBC, East Dimapur.

UKYO Games Secretary Müyoku Curha administered oath to the participating teams of the golden jubilee sports meet, which will continue till December 15.

This Golden Jubilee sports meet of UKYO also commemorates trophies of Lt Kühücho (Men’s football champion), Lt Hükhosa (Men’s football runner-up), Lt Shehüvolü (Women’s volleyball champion) and Zanehü (Men’s volleyball champion).
