Ura Academy 51st seminar held in Kohima

The 51st seminar of Ura Academy was held at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima on December 16. Presently, Ura Academy has around 400 publications.

Exhorting the gathering, former chief minister Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, president, Ura Academy said that Ura Academy is a reputed and matured institution in its nature today. In this, he stressed on the need to widen the horizon of Ura Academy and continue to work for preservation and perpetuation of Tenyimia culture. He also stressed on the need to enhance the level of Tenyidie literature and challenged Tenyimia to strive for excellence in every field.

A novel entitled ‘Father's Love’ written and translated from “A Puo Kekhrie” by Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, was released by Ura Academy secretary general Prof D Kuolie. Dr Liezietsu stated that he had written a novel “A Puo Kekhrie” in Tenyidie and published in 1992. His friend suggested that it would be useful if the same is translated into English for young readers and Dr Liezietsu did the same. This novel is all about a young girl whose life had undergone drastic changes of lifestyle and culture passing through many unexpected events and happenings.

Daso Paphino, vice president Ura Academy also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr Metseilhouthie Mor, president, Ura Academy Rüpfhünuo while welcome address was delivered by Kikruneinuo Liezietsu, advisor Tenyidie Kephrünuoko Krotho. Ato Nienu and Tenyidie Kephrünuoko Krotho presented special numbers. Rev Ketsozeho Sale and Rev. Neikedozo Paphino prayed for the programme. Vote of thanks was proposed by Medongulie Tseikhanuo.

Academic excellence awards:

On the occasion of 51st seminar, Ura Academy has handed over awards to five students for their academic excellence in Tenyidie and music. 

The awardees carried Rs 10,000 each along with citation. The winners are: 

•    Dr Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award (HSLC 2021- Tenyidie Subject Highest Mark): Niesasienuo Keyho, Baptist High, Kohima and Nusakulu, Government High School Thuvopisu

•    Rüzhükhrie Sekhose Award (HSSLC 2021 - Tenyidie Subject Highest Mark): Neishekhonuo Thami, Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Kohima

•    A Kevichusa Award (BA: Tenyidie Honour topper): Shekrolu Vero, Oriental College, Kohima

•    Nini Vinguriaü Lungalung Award (HSSLC 2021 -Highest Mark in Music): Boremo Ngullie, Northfield, Khikha

About Ura Academy

Ura Academy is primarily a literary society. The Academy is committed to working for preservation and perpetuation of Tenyimia culture in the present Tenyimia society which is undergoing great flux in lifestyle and culture. The poetic and philosophic aspects of Tenyidie, traditional garments, traditional ornaments and armours, folk dances and songs of Tenyimia people and all positive practices of its culture, such as the practice of courtesy in speech, of giving honor to one another and to the elders in particular, etc.

Ura Academy was inaugurated on 6th November, 1971 by the then Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Hokishe Sema. With the initiative of Ura Academy, Tenyidie was given recognition by NEHU in 1988 to be introduced in the Pre-University level. Tenyidie was introduced in the post-graduate level in 1997 under Nagaland University. In 2005, Tenyidie was further introduced for Ph.D level.
