Lumami, September 6 (MExN): Nagaland University celebrated its 24th Foundation Day on September 6 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami with T Imna Along Longkumer, Minister, Higher & Technical Education, Government of Nagaland as the Special Guest.
Declaring the Silver Jubilee theme “For a Vibrant Future”, the minister stated that the Foundation Day was a momentous occasion not only for Nagaland University but also for the whole state of Nagaland. While stating that it is a privilege to have a Central University, he also appreciated the land donors for donating the land, it was mentioned in a release.
He also urged the gathering to embrace globalization, and be like the Jews and the Japanese who are able to adapt anywhere without forgetting who they really are.
He envisioned Nagas to penetrate into different parts of India by being the best in their profession. The minister also expressed that by the time Nagaland University attains 50 years, “it will have become a centre of excellence and everyone will look at it with pride.”
Stating that education industry is the biggest industry in the world, he hoped that Nagaland will harness this industry by opening wide its doors.
Professor Pardeshi Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, conveying greeting on the day provided a glimpse of Nagaland University, dwelt on the current status, and provided a view of the future.
He said "there are currently 41 departments across three permanent campuses and a temporary one with over 3000 students, and 66 affiliated colleges under Nagaland University."
He pointed out the Nagaland University had performed well in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) conducted by MHRD having secured 95th position in the NIRF 2018 (Assessment Year: 2017), while in the NIRF 2016 (Assessment Year: 2015) it had got 227th position.
In Research and Innovation, Nagaland University has been placed in 12th position amongst the 40 Central Universities, he said. He stated that apart from teaching, research, and innovation, NU was at the forefront in implementing the Flagship Programmes of the Government of India such as Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), Digital India, Swachch Bharat etc.
He also said that Nagaland University has signed a tri-partite MoU with the UGC and MHRD, which is aimed at measuring the performance of the University. He urged all stakeholders to stand for safeguarding the interest of Nagaland University.
Short speeches were also delivered by Kheto Kinimi, Ex-MLA & Spokesperson of Land Donors, Lumami Village, and Kazheto Kinimi, Advisor, Labour, Employment & Skill Development and CAWD, Government of Nagaland, the release also stated.
At the organizational level, short speeches were delivered by President, NUTA; President, NURSF; President, NUSU; and General Secretary, NUNTSA.
Dr Abemo, Registrar, N.U, delivered the welcome address with a clarion call to all stakeholders to work towards achieving the commitments made by the university.
Meanwhile, Award for meritorious staff were given to T Limayangla (UDC) and Phyobemo Patton (MTS). The Award for Cleanest Hostel went to Kamnoi Research Scholars Men’s Hostel (Boys Category) and Yochem PG Girls Hostel (Girls Category).
The winners of the Debate on “Digital India” were Ilovily Sumi (first), Cecilia (second), and Chivezo Chizo (third). Earlier in the day, Prof. Pardeshi Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University hoisted the University flag at the Foundation Stone Site.
