View of an elderly citizen

There has been confusion created in the minds of the public concerning the unaproportianate- acquired wealth/assets by N. Rio after he assumed the office of the Chief Minister, Nagaland.

As an elderly of the state it pains me to see that our honourable state leaders have to stoop so low to confuse the general public on issues of individuals when the need of the general public is peace, tranquility and development. As a non-political and a elderly citizen of the state, I would like to mention the changes that I have observed ever since the present Govt. have taken over the office since 2003.

1. Violence rate has considerably come down.

2. Rural based public road communications have improved tremendously in all the district of Nagaland.

3. Existing roads in towns and surrounding areas have improved during the past 2 years.

4. 2004-2005 witnessed the year of the youth where employment opportunities in public and private sectors were initiated and encouraged with reasonable positive outcome.

5. Games and sports have been taken as a top priority where in our Chief Minister is personally spear heading and initiating the activities. I personally have witnessed the facilities and encouragements given by our present government.

6. Recreational facilities such as music are also being given a lot of encouragement and importance since our youngsters have tremendous talent in this area.

7. A number of business enterprises have come to our state encouraging private sector ventures.

8. The tourism potential in our state is being given a lot of importance and this has brought about a good number of business setups, which is helping a lot of our people.

9. This year 2006 is witnessing the Year of the Farmers with the Agri- Expo, being conducted recently. I believe it is only the beginning and I am looking forward to the further initiatives the Government will be undertaking.

Over the past two years we have witnessed and observed many changes that the present government has brought to our people in areas of development, awareness and peace which were not evident in the past. According to me, the prime issue of our state today should be how to bring about peace, unity and development. It may perhaps be more useful and befitting if our leaders instead of engaging themselves on allegations and counter allegations, devote more priority on important issues concerning the public such as peace, unity and development so that awareness can be created for the general public in order for the public to participate and contribute towards bringing about a peaceful and prosperous Nagaland.

If any individuals, groups or political parties, etc have valid documents to prove misuse/embezzlement of public money it would be more beneficial and in the interest of the public if these allegations are taken to court of law instead of creating disunity and enmity against each other to avoid discontentment.
