Study materials distributed in JNV Kohima
Kohima, March 15 (MExN): A programme on distribution of study materials to girl students under the Vigyan Jyoti Scheme was held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kohima with EAC (Sadar), Kohima, Kevingoto Kulnu, NCS as special guest and Moasangla, Associate Professor, Kohima Science College as the resource person on March 13.
According to a DIPR report, Principal, JNV, Kohima, K Kapfo stated that the Vigyan Jyoti Scheme is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, intended to create a level-playing field for the meritorious girls in high School to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). He encouraged the students to work hard and make best use of the study materials.
Encouraging the girl students to take up science, the resource person Moasangla expressed happiness that more girls are taking up science education and the numbers of girls are more in many of the institutions. She encouraged them to build a research attitude by asking questions and asked the students to make proper use of technology in their studies. She stressed on the need for a mentality change in the society and to break the belief that mathematics and science are hard subjects.
Special guest, Kevingoto Kulnu said the students studying in Government institutions must consider themselves privileged, stating that they have the best teachers, facilities and opportunities. He stated that education is a great instrument for women empowerment and a tool to balance gender disparity. Kulnu added that one becomes empowered when they are educated. He stressed on the importance of science education and the advantages of it for their future careers. Citing his personal experiences as an administrator, he encouraged the students to consider administration as a career.
