Village wants probe into ghost teacher

Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): Village authorities of Akhoya village in Mokokchung are indignant that the Special Investigation Team of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Commission probing bogus appointment of teachers continue to issue notices about a teacher who isn’t even existent.  This is a matter that needs investigation, the village’s authorities have said.

The Akhoya Village Council and Akhoya Village Education Committee issued a press release today taking exception to the notice issued by the Vigilance Commission, Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in connection with the authentication of the educational certificates and documents pertaining to graduate and primary teachers in Nagaland.

Akhoya reminded the Special Investigation Team of one Yarenlemla said to have appeared in SL.No.332 as P/T in GPS Akhoya under the SDEO of Changtongya in Mokokchung in the said notice was never found and posted as primary teacher at Government Primary School of Akhoya village.

The council and the committee also expressed surprise at seeing the name appear once again in the notice and “calling the same ghost teacher to bring the educational documents for authentication despite our clarification made to the SIT earlier that the said person has never been posted to the GPS Akhoya.”

It is now obvious that the salary must have drawn for the last several years in the name of that ghost teacher against the GPS of Akhoya, the council and committee stated. This is a matter that needs further investigation for necessary recovery and legal action, they said.

Akhoya expressed disappointment that the number of teachers appointed by the department of School Education in the past are found to be either ‘bogus or fictitious.’ As a result some unscrupulous persons are availing monetary benefits at the cost of children and their future, Akhoya said.

“It is also very painful to see the inability on the part of the concerned department and agency to fight the corrupt practices and correct the situation despite the support and cooperation extended by the various civil societies and education committees.”
