Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): A village in Nagaland called Matikhru, bordering with Manipur state today alleged that Jessami village, under Manipur, has “cowardly violated” an agreement made on April 30, 2012, said to have been undertaken between the two villages following a land dispute. Matikhru Village Council warned today that it would be forced to retaliate if the authorities do not act.
Tension between Matikhru in Nagaland and Jessami village in Manipur was diffused after the administrations and police from both the states intervened on April 20, Matikhru Village Council said in the press release received here today. Four villagers from Matikhru were shot at by Jessami villagers on May 2, the council said. The four, however, escape unhurt, the council said.
The council has appealed to the authorities of Manipur state to arrest the alleged perpetrators from Jessami and punish them. The state authorities are also appealed to intervene in the matter and direct the Jessami villagers to vacate the area with their weapons as agreed in the pact signed earlier. Or else, the Matikhru council warned, it would be forced to retaliate and Matikhru village shall not be held responsible.
