IED bomb blast kills one, injures three
DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): One person was killed and three others were injured in a suspected IED blast at a cement retail store in Dimapur on Thursday, June 30. The incident occurred at around 2:20 pm in the afternoon at 3rd Mile, opposite the ARTC when unidentified persons threw an explosive device inside one ‘M/S Y. Enterprise’ dealing with construction materials.
The deceased was identified as one Niranjan Das (60 years), a driver employed in the shop. He was said to have suffered grievous injury to the head and died after reaching hospital. The injured included two Nagas – one Kelethulo Khazo alias Aba (40 years), his brother Asa Khazo (30 years) from Jakhama village and one Jhalak Dhar, an employee (Manager) of the shop. The former two were said to be customers.
They were all rushed to the district hospital where Das succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, for the other three, the injuries were not life threatening. The two brothers were released after first aid, hospital sources said. Dhar sustained shrapnel injuries on the legs and is now in hospital. Police suspect the ugly episode to be an outcome of a turf war “between the two factions of the NSCN (K) over taxation”.
“Preliminary investigation of the motive behind the incident has confirmed that the incident is a result of clash between the two factions of NSCN (K) over ‘taxation’ with both the factions claiming legitimacy of the illegal taxation,” stated a press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur. It added that investigators have identified possible suspects, however did not disclose anything further citing “for reasons of investigation.”
A case was registered at the Diphupar police station and the police are on the hunt to nab the culprits.
