Vocal for Local: Mini handicrafts exhibition in Chozuba underway

Nagaland CAWD & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo today formally inaugurated a weeklong mini handicrafts exhibition cum sales at Vamuzo Memorial Town Hall, Chozuba in Phek district.

Speaking on the occasion, Khamo called upon the artisans to stay committed to their gifted talents and prosper in the handicrafts sector. Thanking the Ministry of Textiles for staging mini exhibition at Chozuba, he called upon the artisans to make the best use of the platform and get maximum benefit.

He also told the artisans that the government has framed different policies to strengthen the livelihood activities. In this, he called upon the people to come forward and avail the various schemes and facilities being extended by the central and state government.

He also encouraged the local artisans to stay connected with the financial institutions to succeed in business venture.

This mini exhibition with the theme ‘Vocal for Local’ will continue till October 31. This programme is part of the celebration of Khadi Mahotsav and Atmanirbhar Bharat and organised by office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima, Ministry of Textile, Government of India.

The exhibition is also being marked by craft demonstration and awareness programme for artisans.

A total of 25 stalls on tribal textiles, wood craft, cane and bamboo craft, jewellery crafts, pottery, natural dye and handloom and khadi, have been set up at the exhibition.

T Rollee Vareishim, Senior Assistant Director (H), HSC Kohima said that the objective of the exhibition is to connect market linkage to the artisans and also to help boost handicraft sector in the grassroot level.

Stating that Ministry of Textiles has many schemes for artisans, he called upon the community to get in touch with office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for Identity Card purpose.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Cholzo Sophie, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Chozuba. Vote of thanks was proposed by Rajib Chandra Roy, Handicrafts Promotion Officer.
