Kohima, December 28 (MExN): The Wanching Students’ Union (WSU) celebrated its platinum jubilee under the theme ‘Education: A Bridge to the Future’ on December 19 and 20.
The historic event brought together dignitaries, students, alumni, and community members from various parts of the region to celebrate this momentous occasion. The festivities included traditional and contemporary activities, cultural showcases, and reflections on the Union’s contributions over the years, stated to a release issued by Press & Media Committee, WSU platinum jubilee.
The celebrations commenced with the unveiling of a monolith at the WSU building, symbolising the enduring spirit of unity and progress. The flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by the WSU anthem, set a reverent and celebratory tone for the event. A Jubilee Tai-ep session held in the evening highlighted the Union’s journey, with speeches from Rev H Moba, Pastor KBCM, and K Wango Langsym, Deputy Director of Social Welfare.
The second day featured a variety of activities, starting with a Minyong Phapu session. The gathering and dignitaries offered prayers and shared insights on the Union’s spiritual and educational legacy.
The cultural programme showcased the rich traditions of Wanching, with performances by the Women’s and Men’s Cultural Troupes and children from Mount Calvary School. Indigenous games such as Khangkhangshep and Yakem-yakkem highlighted the vibrancy of local heritage. A special folk fusion segment added contemporary flair to the festivities.
The Jubilee Extravaganza Night was a highlight of the celebrations, featuring a feast and cultural presentations. The evening was marked by jubilant fellowship and award ceremonies recognizing outstanding contributions to education and community service.
Dignitaries and special guests includes; Uday Rajkonwar, Chief Secretary, Raj Bonshawali, as the special guest, Rev H Moba, Pastor KBCM, and Pj K Wango Langsym, Deputy Director of Social Welfare as Jubilee speakers, Pj W Chingang, Advisor DUDA, Geology & Mining as guest of honour, representatives from All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Assam, and neighboring villages.
Reflecting on 75 years of achievements, WSU President Jn H Mathwang Konyak expressed gratitude to the pioneers of the Union and emphasised the importance of continuing to invest in education for the betterment of the community.
