A man, reported to be wanted and on the run, succumbed reportedly while fleeing from the police. The incident happened on the night of July 26 in Niuland’s Kuhuboto sub-division. The circumstance that resulted in the death of the man, one Ngukavi (40 years), was vague with conflicting versions appearing, while the police declined to divulge details stating that an official statement will be made only on July 27.
The allegation against the police was that the deceased man was rammed by a police vehicle. The police denied it was the case. A police official told The Morung Express that the deceased man was wanted for his suspected involvement in a recent violent crime.
The official said that the details of the undisclosed crime have been kept confidential inorder to not compromise the investigation. The police were reportedly on his lookout, and on the night of the incident, they were involved in a high speed chase, the man on a motorcycle and the police on his tail. Both vehicles reportedly skidded on the road resulting in the death of the motorcyclist. The official said that the Dimapur police will come out with details on July 27.
