Plant Breeding & Genetics –Harendra Verma

1.    Manage the various insects and diseases to avoid economic losses.
i.    Brown Spot Disease: This year occurrence of brown spot disease is very high in some pockets, spray Mancozeb 75%WP @ 2g per liter of water for the management o brown spot of rice.
ii.    Bacterial leaf blight (BLB): In lowland paddy for the management of BLB drain out the water from the field to avoid the spread of inoculums to nearby other fields and spray streptocycline @ 1g per 10 lier of water.
iii.    Gundhi bug: Spray imidachlorprid @ 2ml per liter of water for the management of gundhi bug in rice fields.
iv.    Rice Weevil: Spray Chlorpyrifos @ 1ml per liter of water or spray neem oil @2ml per liter of water.
2.    Maintain the purity of variety by removal of off type plants from the field.
3.    Arrange the seeds of toria/linseed/potato/green pea/field pea or any other crops, fertilizers, bio fertilizers and various agri inputs required for rabi season crop cultivation in advance.
4.    Procure seeds from authentic source with proper label and check the expiry date.
5.    For maintenance of purity of rice varieties take care of rouging, mixing at threshing flour, use clean bags for storage, dry them until moisture content reaches 9-11% for safe storage to avoid damage by fungal attacks.

Spices, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic plants – Azeze Seyie

Entomology – Moanaro Lemtur

1.    Install yellow sticky traps while raising vegetables nursery.

3.    If webbing, scrapping or caterpillars are observed in soybean leaves, spray NSKE 5%  or neem oil @ 2ml/L or Spinosad 45 SC @ 0.75 ml/L of water.
Poultry –Mahak Singh and Talimoa
1.    Avoid coccidosis (red/blood tinged dropping) in poultry by avoiding over crowding of birds.
2.    Prevent early loss of chicks in brooders by giving sufficient warmth and checking frequently to stop birds from lying on top of each other especially at night.
3.    Follow deworming and vaccination as advised by a veterinarian.
4.    It is most economical to sell off broilers at 42 days of age.
5.    Layers will have to be provided at least 14 hours of bright light to induce timely egg laying.
6.    High laying birds must be provided layer specific ration.
7.    As winter is approaching, cold proofing must be installed.
8.    Maintain dry litter material.
9.    Do not mix birds of different age groups.

5.    Preparations should be made for farrowings. As it is cold in the evenings, warmth may be provided to piglets by using filament bulbs and providing warm bedding material.
6.    Iron injection or supplements may be given to infant piglets till atleast  20 days of age.
7.    Needle teeth nipping of piglets may be done as soon as possible.

Fishery – Jyotish Barman

1.    Constantly monitor fish activities and movement every morning, noon and evening. At early morning hours the fish may come to surface to gulp air or breathe. If such symptoms are observed, immediately mix the pond water by splashing or by pumping fresh water from nearby sources.
2.    Diseased or injured fish should be dipped in 1 ppm KMnO4  (potassium permanganate) solution for 1 minute and then release into the pond.
3.    Prune tree branches around the pond so that leaves do not fall on water. Make sure that the pond receives enough sunlight.
4.    Apply lime @ 27 kg/ha preferably in the morning hours preferably during 9 – 10 am to maintain the desired pH level of the water. Lime should be mixed with water in a container and allowed to cool and sprayed over the pond surface. Avoid liming on rainy or cloudy days.
5.    After 10 days of lime application, apply cow dung @ 200 kg /ha, Urea @ 25 kg/ha and SSP @ 20 kg/ha.
6.    Feeding should be continued @ 14 kg/day/ha.
7.    If the temperature is too high, put some floating aquatic plant in one corner of the pond to provide shelter for the stocked fish. The covered area should not exceed one-fourth of the total water surface area.
8.    If excessive growth of algae (algal bloom) occurs, discontinue feeding and fertilization for few days until the bloom disappears
9.    Fish weighing above 600-700 g can be partially harvested to allow the remaining fish to grow fast.
10.    Remove pond bottom debris before the onset of winter.
