Weather condition to deteriorate in coming days: NSDMA cautions

• Intense weather activity forecasted from May 26 to June 5
• State capital Kohima ‘more vulnerable’

Kohima, May 26 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department on Wednesday informed that the weather condition in Nagaland and other Northeastern States like Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal, and Meghalaya is expected to deteriorate in the coming days.

The NSDMA’s weather update in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati  stated that the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ has crossed Odisha coast near Balasore and the weather condition over the entire North-eastern India is expected to deteriorate more so in Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Further, the onset of Southwest monsoon over the mainland India is expected to occur around the May30, according to the update.

Both these conditions call for sensitive weather condition for the entire state of Nagaland in the coming days, it added.

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at few places over the State which will get intense and may cause disruption in communication and connectivity. This phenomenon in the weather activity is expected to take place from May 26 to June 5 mostly during evening and night hours, the NSDMA informed.

During the next 48 hours and the second half of the forecast period, the State is expected to experience harsh weather conditions. The State capital Kohima remains more vulnerable for strong weather activity, it cautioned.

The NSDMA, Home Department urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period.

It also requested all the DDMAs and other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
