Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): Ad-hoc teachers from Dimapur today lamented that the Kohima police would act harsh against agitating ad-hoc teachers during the August 19 fracas in Kohima when corrupt officials are “sitting in their cosy offices at the expense of thousands who are suffering physically and economically.”
The ANATU unit also lamented SDPO of Kohima Relo T Aye’s reported “misleading remark in defence of his subordinate” in the wake of the August 19 fracas in Kohima between some members of the All Nagaland Ad-Hoc Teachers’ Union (ANATU) and the police.
An article from the Dimapur unit of the union today said the ad-hoc teachers were “duped by the govt for a decade” and were staging a peaceful demonstration in a bid to express their grievances. “We do not have to open the history textbook and remind each other that peaceful demonstrations are allowed even in military-ruled States let alone democratic States. Does the police manual empower an officer to suddenly order lathi-charge peaceful demonstrators?” the union queried.
“What about the corrupt officials sitting in their cosy offices at the expense of thousands who are suffering physically and economically? Is the job of police to protect those officials and bash up the marginalised for voicing out their rights? The police chief’s claim that his subordinate just did the rightful thing (except for an extra step) obviously suggests that the entire police machinery has lost its conscience,” the ANATU unit asserted.
