What the students learned from GD Sharma

By now the issue of the most corrupted Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University chanting Sharma’s resignation needs no introduction in Nagaland. There is no denying the fact that right after his intrusion into our prestigious University, corruption has been the rule of the day in NU. Subsequently NUTA, NUNTSA, NSF and PGSU of the three Campuses has been struggling their best to oust him out rightly due to the very fact that his appointment is illegal and very much against the interest of the Nagas. Nevertheless, he has been very efficient beyond our expectations, in practicing and imparting corruption, favoritism, nepotism and all sorts of mal-practices hither unknown to Nagas, thereby betraying and denying the Naga students community of their fundamental right.

Apart from promoting corruption, G.D.Sharma has deliberately assassinated the careers of thousand of P.G. Students who have been crying till now for reasons best known to Sharma and his diehard comrades. Unfortunately, how unfortunate! And yet inevitable, it is now our turn (2004-2005 batches) to cry, suffer and struggle still to wage the same old “war of corruption” with placards and banners instead of our lovely textbooks and notebooks. Is corruption his only ability? After all, we have come to this University not to learn how to strike and ban, how to agitate and burn effigies or to submit memorandums but definitely this is what he teaches. So, at this hour (better late then never) when we have enough evidence to prove him guilty it is high time to terminate him for his crime and CBI inquiry be instituted against him.

From February 26th till date i.e. 10th March, NUTA and PGSU with the full backing of the NSF has been successfully observing an indefinite total academic closure followed by an indefinite closure of its administrative office from 8th March till date. This is where we, the students and the Nagas are now.

Whereas, it is unworthy for us to condemn an esteemed office and respected chair of a Vice Chancellor, it is equally unfortunate that a person like GD Sharma has tainted the Chair of a VC which is an insult and defamation not only to the Nagas but a mockery on the whole system of education in India.

Moreover, the students are still alive with full vigor and ready to face any eventualities to rock him out from his chair since he no longer deserve even to inhale the fresh air of Nagaland, GD Sharma is also a personification of the inherent corruption lurking within the University itself. No doubt who knows many Naga officials and VIPs who are working hand in gloves with Sharma will be perished along with him. But beating the whole system and cleansing the entire University from corruption is the need of the present moment.

Whereas, the agitation still persists and the tug-of-war still continues and the career and future of the students still hangs in balance till the MHRD and the President accepts the resignation of the VC. Therefore, it is a sincere and honest appeal to all right thinking citizens of Nagaland to come forward and raise their voice against these forces of corruption, so that we can live in egalitarian society where we can determine our future with sincerity and honesty.
