Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) expressed sorrow and strongest condemnation over a recent drone attack in Naga areas of Myanmar that killed two civilians, which it alleged was carried out by the Indian armed forces.
In a statement, the group said the attack led to the deaths of a 7-year-old child and a 27-year-old civilian, calling it a deplorable violation of human rights and international law.
The WNYF drew a parallel between this incident and the Oting massacre of December 2021, in which 14 civilians were killed by security forces in Nagaland.
“Nearly four years later, justice has still not been delivered to the victims and their families,” the statement read, adding that the “absence of accountability has emboldened further acts of impunity.”
The youth body stated that the Naga people have endured “decades of militarization and systematic human rights abuses without justice or recognition.”
It called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and peace advocates to take cognizance of the situation and ensure accountability, alleging that the “domestic judiciary has failed time and again in serving justice to the Nagas.”
“The cycle of violence against civilians must end, and those responsible must face justice,” the WNYF statement concluded, reaffirming its commitment to the “pursuit of peace, justice, and the protection of every innocent life.”
