Wokha, June 3 (MExN): Six persons were penalised for noncompliance to the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in Wokha town on June 3.
According to a DIPR report on Friday, the COTPA flying squad team led by Officer-in-charge. Wokha Police Station and representatives of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Dobashis and personnel from the Wokha PS and Women PS conducted raids to check selling of tobacco products in and around school premises.
“As per COTPA Act, selling of any kind of tobacco products within 100 meters radius within the school area is restricted under the Act. The team after conducting the raid penalized 6 (Six) defaulters for non compliance of the Act and the tobacco products were also seized,” the DIPR report stated.
The seized tobacco products were destroyed the same day in front of the team at the Wokha Police Station premises, it said.
Informing that such kind of raids would be conducted frequently, the authorities cautioned all shop keepers selling tobacco products within the restricted areas to abide by the laid down provisions of law.
