Wokha, September 5 (MExN): The Wokha District Consumer Rights Organisation (WDCRO) on September 4 conducted a meeting-cum-picnic at Doyang wherein various issues to initiate and strengthen the markets for the interest and welfare of Wokha district consumers were deliberated on.

According to a press release from the organisation on Sunday, WDCRO President Abel Enni said that healthy and hygienic slaughterhouses would be strictly checked as most of the slaughterhouses are found below the criteria of food safety instructions. Various unhygienic slaughterhouses and various hotels will be intensively surveyed by WDCRO since the organisation exists for the health and welfare of consumers, he said.

The organisation also affirmed to pick up various issues and invite consumers of Wokha to lodge complaints with the office of WDCRO. A follow-up action plan with the proposed agendas will be initiated soon, the release stated.

Meanwhile, the release stated that the issue of LPG cooking gas shortage at Wokha was intimidated by WDCRO to the office of Deputy Commissioner, and earlier on July 27, the Deputy Commissioner directed all commercial establishments (hotels/restaurants) to use commercial gas rather than domestic gas as per the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) order 2000 and Consumer Protection Act 2019.

During the meeting, the WDCRO affirmed to work for the interest of Wokha district consumers and seek cooperation and support from the citizens, it added.
