Wokha has introduced a two-wheeler taxi service with 20 riders inducted in the initial phase, aiming to provide faster and more convenient transportation for the public. To mark the launch on October 9, the service providers offered free rides to commuters for the day.

The launch programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, as the special guest, along with town council representatives, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and the inducted riders.

Addressing the riders, Tsanglao urged them to prioritise passenger safety, maintain cordial relations with commuters and strictly follow traffic regulations, particularly cautioning against overspeeding. He said the service would not only provide a livelihood opportunity for the riders but also make daily transportation more accessible to the public.

Observing that similar services in other districts had benefited both commuters and service providers, the DC called for cooperation among the riders and advised them to operate within their designated jurisdictions while adhering to the prescribed rules. Interim body president Chumben Yanthan informed that the service would initially operate from five designated locations: Police Point, NST, SP Office, Niropen Colony and Civil Hospital Wokha.

Commuters can avail the service by contacting the riders over the phone or approaching them at or near the designated parking points. The service providers were also encouraged to extend mutual support and coordinate their operations to ensure efficient service delivery.

As part of the launch, free rides were provided to citizens throughout the day.
