Wokha legislators take stock of COVID-19 preparedness

Wokha, June 1 (MExN): The monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting for Wokha district was held on June 1 along with the District Task Force for COVID-19 and legislators from the district, a DIPR report stated on Tuesday. 

During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton informed that 25% of the LADF-Common Pool fund 2021-2022 has been reserved for upgrading medical equipments and other required facilities for the District Hospital, Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Community Health Centres (CHC), the report stated. Patton also donated Rs 10 lakh for procurement of X-Ray machine for District Hospital, Wokha and handed over PPE kits and cash for Wozhuro Primary Health Centre to the local MLA Dr Chumben Murry.

As per the report, Patton expressed his appreciation to the doctors, health care workers, frontline workers, administration, police, civil societies and all others involved, for rendering their yeoman service towards the safety of the people during the pandemic.

Advisor for IT & Communication, Science & Technology, NRE, and Chairperson of Wokha DPDB Mmhonlumo Kikon apprised the house that the positivity rate in the State has gone down from 34% to 21 % after the lockdown and added that the State has set a target to bring it down to 10% to lift the lockdown.

In reply to a memorandum submitted by the Lotha Hoho, Kikon requested the medical department—the chief medical officer and medical superintendent, to work out and submit details of requirements of the District Hospital at the earliest so that the issues can be put up to the Government for consideration. He further congratulated the Wokha DTF for working tirelessly for the well being of the people of the district. With regard to upgradation of the district hospital, PHCs and CHCs, the chairperson requested the Deputy Commissioner, CMO and MS to work out modalities and submit the same for implementation, according to the DIPR.

Advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs Mhathung Yanthan emphasised on proper treatment of COVID patients admitted at COVID Care Centres and lauded the efforts put in by the health care workers in the district. MLA Dr Chumben Murry urged the people to come forward and take timely medical help for the safety and well being of the community. He added that before the third wave comes, the district needs to vaccinate at least 40% of the population. Dr Murry was of the opinion that the testing rate in the district is very low and urged the Medical Department to scale up the testing activity in the district to avoid flaring up of positive cases, the report stated.

Wokha DC Orenthung Lotha apprised the preparedness status of the District Task Force in the district and highlighted some of the activities of the DTF.

Visits healthcare facilities

The Deputy Chief Minister and his entourage also visited the District Hospital to take firsthand accounts of the preparedness level. During the visit, Patton thanked the doctors, nurses and other health care workers for rendering their service and urged them to share their grievances and difficulties. He assured his fullest co-operation to the medical fraternity in the coming days and donated PPE kits and cash for the hospital, the report stated.

The team also visited Sanis CHC and held interactions with the medical staff and the public of Sanis area. The Dy CM also donated PPE kits and cash towards Sanis CHC which was handed over to Deputy CMO Wokha, it said.

In Bhandari, Patton held a meeting with frontline workers and the Bhandari Block Task Force members at the Bhandari CHC, another DIPR report stated. 

Taking stock of the COVID-19 situation at the inter-state border subdivision, the Dy CM stated that though Bhandari subdivision is placed at a very challenging area being a state border, it was found to be one of the most efficient blocks in managing and containing the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated the frontline workers for their hard work and consistent efforts.

Assuring support to the frontline workers in combating the pandemic and in delivering health safety services to the public, he encouraged them to highlight their requirements for timely redressal.

CHC Bhandari’s Senior Medical Officer Dr Caroline informed that around 2,000 people have been vaccinated till date and random sample testing for COVID-19 have been carried out at different strategic locations within the subdivision. COVID-19 management has so far been carried out smoothly with the resources available at its disposal, she said, while acknowledging the visiting team’s donations in the form of cash and materials.
