Wokha, November 23 (MExN): The District Administration in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho organized a pledge taking with candle light program at Wokha town Police Point junction on November 23. The program was held on the theme ‘Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child” of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon, addressing the gathering urged everyone to join hand and extend support for the success of the program. The candle light program was held to strengthen the aim to educate, empower girl child and to up lift her status in their family and in the society in order to give equal platform in the society.
It is time to change the mindset and this should begin within the family by giving equal opportunity to both the male and female child, he added. He also informed that the District Administration through this scheme targets to promote school dropouts by initiating various programs.
The Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) Youth Department presented a street play on the importance of empowering the girl child.
Various events and programs had been planned to be held in all the ranges and block covering the entire district to sensitize and give awareness to the public about the importance of girl child. In this regard the District Administration is collaborating with various departments and stake-holders to conduct the programs, a press release from I.A Wokha informed. It appealed to all the concerned departments to carry out their assigned responsibilities for the success of the programme.
