Wokha town faces water supply crisis due to source depletion, infrastructure damage

Wokha, April 2 (MExN): Wokha town is facing a severe water supply crisis due to the depletion of its primary source, Etsuchukha spring, leading to disruptions in regular supply to consumers, the Executive Engineer (EE) of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha, Er Imnazulu Ao, has informed.

According to the State DIPR, the situation is expected to persist or worsen until the onset of the monsoon. Additionally, efforts to pump water from the Engorotchu source have been hindered due to a transformer failure, the collapse of an electric post, and damage to the electrical pumping system caused by a natural calamity, the PHED EE stated.

While acknowledging that repairs and restoration would take time, the PHED Wokha Division said it is working in coordination with the Power Department to resolve the issue and restore the water supply at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the department has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and urged consumers to cooperate and understand the challenges being faced.
