Mokokchung, March 8 (MExN): In commemoration of the International Women’s Day in Mokokchung, the District Administration and Sakhi One Stop Centre Mokokchung held a programme at Ongpangkong Salang on March 8.
Speaking on the occasion, Mokokchung Superintendent of Police Vishal said women are the source of inspiration and courage. Looking at the role that women play in life, he said, not only this particular day but every single should be dedicated to women folk. Vishal maintained that the image of God lies in women but till today they are not given their deserved rights. He asked all the participants to be an ambassador for women empowerment, a DIPR report stated.
The SP meanwhile noted that in the Naga society, women are given maximum freedom and rights in all aspects. However, he observed that in recent times, there has been an increase of domestic violence cases. As such, he asked the women folk not to take any kind of oppression but to immediately report to the authority, should there be any oppression against them. He assured that the Mokokchung Police force would always be there to help in every way possible to ensure that women folk are safe in the society.
According to the DIPR report, Mokokchung SDO (C) Dharam Raj said that Nagaland is the best when it comes to providing rights to women but when it comes to playing key roles in the society, it is very less. He said, to come out of the discrimination, every woman must realize their inner capabilities and qualities and realise their key roles in the society.
Another programme was held earlier at Town Hall, Mokokchung which was organized by the District Administration and District Level Centre for Women-MSK (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) Mokokchung, where 10 women frontline workers were felicitated.
Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Limawapang Jamir who was the special guest thanked all the women frontline workers for working tirelessly in fighting the pandemic and also expressed appreciation to all the departments and NGOs for walking the extra mile in the fight against COVID-19.
The frontline workers who were awarded with certificates of appreciation and cash included Women Sanitary Workers Masasula, Bendangmenla, Ozungtula, Tsungo and Sashilila; Medical/Health Workers Mokokchung CMO Dr Chubala Aier and Microbiologist IMDH Mokokchung Narosenla; Women Police personnel Kirenjungla of Women Police Station DEF; Maonginla, Watsu President; and Shilula Imchen, Associate Pastor Women MTBA.
To mark the occasion, Royal Enfield Club, Mokokchung distributed flowers to women during their ride in and around Mokokchung town, the report stated.
