WOKHA, JUNE 14 (MExN): A consultative workshop on addiction prevention and control was held at NST Community Hall, Wokha, on June 6 under the theme “Leaders Against Addiction: Prevention and Control.” The initiative was organized by Peace Channel in collaboration with the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS), Guwahati.
The event brought together community leaders, youth representatives, and members of NST Colony, including Vice Chairman Chonben Ezung, NST Eloe Ekhung General Secretary Erenbeni Tungoe, and Youth President Chulan Murry. The program was chaired by Ovungrhoni Tungoe.
Patrick W. Tungoe, District Resource Person for the Nagaland Users Network (NUN) under the Link Worker Scheme, served as the keynote speaker. In his address, he stressed that addiction disrupts the peace and stability of individuals, families, and society at large. He called upon leaders to take proactive roles in prevention efforts through awareness, education, and support networks.
District Coordinator of Peace Channel Wokha, Konthunglo Z. Lotha, in her welcome remarks, highlighted the role of collaboration in tackling substance abuse. “Collective action is key to building a peaceful and healthy community,” she said.
Vice Chairman Chonben Ezung thanked Peace Channel for organizing the workshop and urged young people to actively participate in addiction prevention. He emphasized counselling, awareness, and a non-judgmental approach as core components in addressing substance abuse. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mhachamo J Ovung, followed by a closing prayer led by Lovungi Yanthan.
