LONGLENG, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): In view of 16 days of activism against gender based violence, District Administration BBBP, MSK & OSC Longleng conducted an awareness and senitization program for men folk at Bhumnyu Baptist Church, Longleng on November 28.

Nyangyungsangla, Counsellor, OSC spoke on the significance of the 16 days activism observed all over the world. Monyei Phom, Panel Lawyer gave brief explanation on women's legal rights. She also encouraged the gathering to always approach the legal office for further information. Trongdiba Sangtam, SDO (C) Longleng challenged the men folk to bring changes starting with small gestures.

Speaking on the topic, Tialemba Phom, Executive Secretary, PBCA Longleng, dwelt on the increasing number of violence against women in the country. He said discrimination starts from the family, where girl and boy children are differentiated. He further pointed out that women are constantly blamed and criticized. Phom encouraged the gathering to fight for women’s rights and to always support girl child education. He added that to fight for women's rights is not to deceive men but to co-exist.

Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by BBC Pastor & Chairman of the Village Council, while the program was chaired by Phungla, WWO, Longleng.
