PFUTSERO, AUGUST 29 (MExN): A one-day workshop on “Work Ethics and Workplace Etiquette” for non-teaching staff was held on Friday at Pfutsero Government College, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
Dr Elizabeth Walling, Principal of SCTE Kohima, served as the resource person. She underlined the importance of sincerity at work and urged participants to view the workplace as a family where compassion and mutual support are valued.
She said government service is brief and employees should strive to give their best during their tenure. Ethics and etiquette, she noted, are indispensable for leaving behind a meaningful legacy. While ethics deals with right and wrong, etiquette is reflected in good manners and conduct, she said, highlighting punctuality as a marker of professionalism.
Responsibility, honesty and trustworthiness, qualities often nurtured within the home, should be practiced in the workplace as well, Dr. Walling stressed. She also reminded participants that every profession carries ethical obligations that must be faithfully upheld.
Citing examples such as prohibition orders on spitting and littering, she said that lack of etiquette often compels formal enforcement. Though not formally taught in classrooms, staff can impart ethics and etiquette to students through their example, even in routine tasks such as assisting with documentation, she added.
Earlier, college principal Dr Anungla Pongener delivered the welcome address, while IQAC secretary Chothazo Nienu gave the concluding remarks, expressing appreciation to the resource person and participants.
The workshop was actively attended by the non-teaching staff of the college, who described the sessions as enriching and relevant to both personal and institutional growth.
