Kohima, March 11 (MExN): Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) officially launched the week-long celebration of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) with the theme ‘The Sustainable Consumer’ on March 9 in Kohima.
The Organisation informed that it will observe the celebration by conducting consumer awareness campaign related to price-rise, food safety, illegal collection of cash on highways, RTI, public services delivery system, back-door appointment, corruption, food security, right of street vendors, etc.
NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi said that the consumer movement marks March 15 as World Consumer Rights Day every year, as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs.
“Celebrating the day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and to protect against market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights,” the NVCO statement said.
The NVCO appealed to Voluntary Consumer Organisations (VCO), civil societies, churches, communities and institutions to observe the day in a benefitting manner.
