Chümoukedima, November 7 (MExN): Three organisations in Chümoukedima have appealed to all Naga national political groups to ensure their cadres refrain from anti-social activities, intimidation and extortion, and respect the peace and safety of the public, according to a joint statement issued on Saturday.

The Chumoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO), Chumoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association (CCCTA) and Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC) in a joint statement said they had taken note of reports regarding the presence of underground cadres within and around Chümoukedima Town with the onset of the festive season.

They also raised concerns over reports from several quarters that cadres from various factions were demanding taxes and fees from construction workers.

Stating that Chümoukedima was a peaceful and growing town where business establishments, both local and non-local, have been flourishing, the organisations said every business establishment must have the freedom to operate without fear or intimidation, and warned that any attempt to disrupt this environment or threaten the business community will not be tolerated.

The CTYO, CCCTA and CTC warned business establishments against paying any form of taxation to any individual or underground groups, and cautioned against artificial price rise taking advantage of the festive season. Any discrepancy or misunderstanding should be reported to the competent authority immediately, they said.

The organisations further reaffirmed the public resolution of “One Government, One Tax”, adopted on February 13, 2014, and called upon all concerned to respect the collective decision of the people.
